The Misperception of a “Healthy Lifestyle”

In today’s society, the media has truly taken over. Now, I’ve noticed it in so many ways and each one was unbearable to realize. The idea of great health is now “low fat milk and a low calorie diet” along with some whole grains and tons of fruits and veggies. That’s it. Nothing to it. If this is the case, then why are so many people in bad shape? Why are so many people sick? Most of our loved ones have some type of illness whether it be diabetes type 2, cancer, high cholesterol, obesity, etc. These rates are higher than what it naturally should be. Adults get older expecting one today’s most common illnesses. As more people get sick and fat, the higher the hospital bill’s fly. Is it so surprising that America has a

serious health industry dilemma?

Who can we absolutely blame? The manufacturers who make the food? The person himself who should know whats healthy for him/her? The corporations? Maybe even your doctor?

It’s hard to say.


Personally, I can’t blame anyone. As much sense I’d want to put into the average person in America, they can’t be blamed. Even growing up, some type of idea of health has been implanted in their brains. Vegetables and fruit are good for you. It’s important not to eat “too much” … whatever that is.  Don’t be lazy or you’ll get fat. Blegh.

The number one reason why I believe people are so unhealthy is because we are so knowledgeable of what a healthy lifstyle really is, we look to the media. We look to fad-diets. We take advice from that weight loss program ad we’ve seen so many celebrities lose weight from. Gotta trust them, right? We look to our prescribed medicine. We think its all fine then. But it gets worse.

The same low-fat food with the ‘invisible’ high sugar content raises the level of acidity in our body, making it heaven for tons of cancers. The same low-priced lean meat we find at our local commercial grocery contains chemicals and hormones given to the animals to prevent them from disease and what they like to call… “malnutrition” to raise production and sales quicker not only slows our metabolism, but makes our bodies have to fight harder to get rid of toxins, which can also lead to a poor immune system, poor metabolism and cancers. That new gluten free diet didn’t work. It is only effective for those who have ACTUAL intolerances to gluten products and for those who actually have minor reactions to it, like bloating and sugar spikes in their system, making it necessary to follow the diet so they can lose those few pounds, which doesn’t work for everyone.

We all try to take advice from that “he said, she said” blabber. But are we really learned our bodies the way we should? Individuality makes us all different; our bodies crave different things. Should you really be doing a low-carb diet to lose weight just because everyone else does it? Should you be working out five ours a day just because the results have been supurflous for someone else? Are cheically altered foods and diet pills really going to teach you how you should be keeping yourself healthy?

Is it really that hard to take care of your hair, nails, body, weight gain and muscle tone?

Is it too expensive to eat right?

Is it hard to eat healthy?

 

Well, if you ask me, no.
